Happy President's Day

Hmmm, I love days off, but it is so sad to be sick.  I woke up yesterday not feeling the best, and last night didn't sleep well at all, so woke up this morning feeling worse.  Sore throat, stuffy nose, itchy ears. On top of that I was experiencing some stabbing pains in the lower left side of my abdomen, so I placed a phone call to my doctor's office.  Went in at 8:50 (I was planning on staying in bed until at least 10:00!).  Baby heart rate is good, protein in urine was negative, blood pressure was good.  Nose/throat/ears don't look infected, so it's just a cold.  Dr. K is thinking my pain is round ligament pain, which is one of those "side effects" of pregnancy.  But because I had abdominal pain, we scheduled an ultrasound.

Kleine Bohn is measuring about 5 pounds, so maybe I should start calling her Grosse Bohn!  She had her hands in front of her face most of the time, so we were only able to get a muddy 3D shot.  It's still fascinating to see her heart beating.  I must have eaten something yummy, her tongue was going crazy "licking" at the amniotic fluid.  Rob is a super husband, he drove up for the ultrasound even though his day is busy.  Thanks, Rob!!!

If I can figure out how to get our scanner to actually scan the U/S picture, I'll get it posted.  Now it's time to eat, and then I head in to the hospital for our pre-admission appointment!

growing pains

So I am in the middle of week 33 and KB is growing!  Last night at school I served punch for the family math night and got home with super swollen ankles.  Yesterday was really the first time that I had issues with swelling, I think putting in a full day of teaching plus a couple of extra hours on the feet was too much.  So today I had hip pain, back pain, knee pain, and sore feet.  I suppose those are all pregnancy pains, but they made sleeping difficult!

VERY excited about the three day weekend.  Meeting mom and dad H at the legends for dinner tonight, mom and dad O in lawrence for dinner and basketball tomorrow, a show at the new theatre restaurant with mom and dad H on Sunday, and UMKC production of Carmina Burana at the Kauffman Center on Monday.  AND we have our hospital preadmission appointment Monday afternoon!  Time is flying....

Name Bracket!

Here is the name bracket!  You can print, fill it out, and play along.  Baby Overton's real name is in this list somewhere. We'll reveal the results of Round 1 on Sunday, February 26, Round 2 on Sunday, March 4th, Round 3 on Sunday March 11th, etc.  We may adjust the timing once we hit the Final Four, in case KB makes an early or late appearance.  If you would like a better copy, we have a PDF we can email you.  (I don't think it's possible for me to upload a PDF to the blog!). If you'd like us to score your bracket for you, let send us an email with a completed copy.

Good luck!

It's a beautiful day!

I have had such a delightful day!

My dear friend, Emily, threw me the most amazing baby shower, and I had so many lovely friends and family in attendance. We ate a delicious dairy free and gluten free brunch, then made hair clips for Engelberta. All the ladies, except for me, wrote stories about KB's mommy and daddy so she can read what Rob and I were "like" before we became parents. Emily is going to bind those together to make a book.

It is wonderful to be loved by so many people!!

Received many useful and cute gifts, now I should get started on the baby's room. :)

Dad and Mom unloaded our gifts at the house while I chatted with friends, and then we headed to Fred and Rita's with Josh, Rachel, and Ashley to watch the KU OSU basketball game. Mom and Dad O, thanks for letting us use your cable while you were at the game!

We all met back at our house, plus Carrie, for a pizza and bracket party. Papa Murphy's has great pizza, and we ordered some without cheese so I was able to put some of that yummy Daiya "cheese" on one to make it Mel-happy. The family worked hard on filling in their name brackets. 64 names, who will be the winner???

A blank bracket will be available soon so you can play!

Mighty Movements

Engelberta gets really active at night. Last night she moved a lot, and big movements that shook my entire belly. I'm thinking (hoping!) she flipped to head down. Right now I feel as if she has more than two legs and arms, I'm getting punched, nudged and prodded all over the place. A few weeks ago I was really sad because she got bigger, and so her movements changed from flutters and flips and real hard kicks to rolls and jabs. I suppose she is supposed to get bigger, so that's a good thing! Now I'm not sad about her movement changes, except that she stops moving when Rob comes over to feel/look! As soon as he walks away, she starts up again. Already playing games with Daddy. :-)
