Baby Moon!

From wikipedia:
Babymoon has several meanings. The original meaning is a period of time that parents spend bonding with a recently-born baby.
More recently the term has come to be used to describe a vacation taken by a couple that is expecting a baby in order to allow the couple to enjoy a final trip together before the many sleepless nights that usually accompany a newborn baby. Babymoons usually take place at a resort that offers appropriate services like prenatal massage.

I had originally wanted to go on a babymoon over Winter Break to Hawaii or California, but with the extensive travelling we did last summer, we (ie Rob) decided that wouldn't be the best use of our funds OR his time off.  I still wanted to have one last formal "fling" before baby, and thanks to some kind friends who hooked us up with discounts, Rob and I were able to go on a mini-babymoon.

We started with a delicious dinner at the Classic Cup Cafe on the Plaza.  The weather was absolutely glorious.  Eating outside was reminiscent of our time in Europe last summer.

Then we headed to the Chateau Avalon at the Legends in KCK.

We stayed in a Roman Dynasty themed room, which was the themed room we stayed at after our wedding!
Jayme H hooked us up with a handicap accessible room so that I wouldn't have to navigate steps in the middle of the night.

The staff was great, we asked for fresh coffee from the front desk, and they brought down a whole carafe just for us.  They also heated up our raspberry peach cobbler from the Classic Cup on a real plate and brought down real silverware. :)

We slept until 9 this morning and had a wonderful breakfast, shown above.  The Chateau serves Midnight Rendezvous DECAF coffee from the Roasterie.  This was by far the best decaf coffee I have ever had.   Rob enjoyed the Chateau Avalon signature blend created by the Roasterie. Yum!

Now we're home, very much relaxed, and ready to tackle some more of my to-do list.  :)

Note: I haven't heard from my doctor about my lab results, and no news is good news.  My swelling is less than it has been, which is super.  blood pressure is still very much on target.  Thanks for your prayers!

Update on me:  I am starting to show signs of pre-eclampsia. :(  I'm doing lab work at the hospital tomorrow, who will call my doctor in the late afternoon with results.  The prayer is that the results come back NORMAL so that I don't talk to my doctor until next week's visit.  If results aren't looking good, she'll call me tomorrow evening and we'll go from there.  My blood pressure is normal which is good.

TO DO LISTS

Spring break starts today...and so does my maternity leave!  The countdown: 3 weeks.  Holy cow!

I'm going to create (and probably add to) a "to do" list.  If anyone has the desire to come tackle this with me, by all means you are welcome to come over!  Or post encouragement to stay motivated. :)

Ah.  I just got off the phone with my doctor's office, so taking it easy is going to be a big priority.  I'd say if I can tackle this list over the next three weeks, that would be great.  Now, off to cuddle with the cats and catch up on some Zzz's!

How many months left, Ms Overton?

I was asked that question this morning by one of my fifth graders.  I realized that today is Dr. Suess' birthday, March 2nd, and that April 2nd is my due date, so I have one month left.

AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm excited and nervous and so not ready, and so ready, all at the same time.  That's normal, right???

When I told my fifth grader "one month" she goes "Where have I been?"  Ha!

On a bittersweet note, I have one week of teaching left until my leave starts.  We don't have school on Friday due to teacher meetings, so I'm going to start telling my students today that I won't be back after spring break and PLEASE be great for my sub.

Happy President's Day

Hmmm, I love days off, but it is so sad to be sick.  I woke up yesterday not feeling the best, and last night didn't sleep well at all, so woke up this morning feeling worse.  Sore throat, stuffy nose, itchy ears. On top of that I was experiencing some stabbing pains in the lower left side of my abdomen, so I placed a phone call to my doctor's office.  Went in at 8:50 (I was planning on staying in bed until at least 10:00!).  Baby heart rate is good, protein in urine was negative, blood pressure was good.  Nose/throat/ears don't look infected, so it's just a cold.  Dr. K is thinking my pain is round ligament pain, which is one of those "side effects" of pregnancy.  But because I had abdominal pain, we scheduled an ultrasound.

Kleine Bohn is measuring about 5 pounds, so maybe I should start calling her Grosse Bohn!  She had her hands in front of her face most of the time, so we were only able to get a muddy 3D shot.  It's still fascinating to see her heart beating.  I must have eaten something yummy, her tongue was going crazy "licking" at the amniotic fluid.  Rob is a super husband, he drove up for the ultrasound even though his day is busy.  Thanks, Rob!!!

If I can figure out how to get our scanner to actually scan the U/S picture, I'll get it posted.  Now it's time to eat, and then I head in to the hospital for our pre-admission appointment!
